Relax. The revolution does not have to be dry.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the congressman and former bartender of New York, has proposed a series of special cocktail recipes for those working on change.

The recipes, including one with the name Hard Brexit – "a straight-line shot of bathtubs, without imported botanicals" – followed an online suggestion by journalist Anand Giridharadas, who recently said that the 29-year-old congressman had "the United States in a month" changed "discourse about billionaires and the common good".

Giridharadas, author of a 2018 book on global inequality, Winners Take All: The Elite Charade or Changing the Worldsaid he suspected that Mrs. Ocasio-Cortez "might be too busy killing dragons to offer her bartending skills, but I do believe she can be persuaded to submit a distinctive cocktail recipe."

He added: "It will be green, it will be new and, for $ 4 before 17:00, it will be a deal."

Mrs. Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest woman ever elected for Congress, responded in style with six ideas, described as "cocktails for the revolution". Besides the hard Brexit she suggested:

* World without a #GreenNewDeal: a Bitter Dark n & # 39; Stormy.

* Clean transport: an aviation, but hold the crème de violet.

* Bridges, Not Walls: a Mezcal Greyhound.

* Paid parental leave: Mocktail Margarita.

* Policy fails: everything with Goldschläg.

The American border agency & # 39; does not deserve a dime & # 39 ;, says Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez during a protest against ICE

The idea for the cocktails came when Ms. Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts unveiled last week a proposal called the Green New Deal, saying they will address climate change, transform the economy, and create many jobs in renewable energy.

It was proposed to create a carbon-neutral economy within a decade and last year followed a UN-sponsored climate report that said the effects of climate change are irreversible and inevitable if carbon emissions were drastically reduced within 12 years.

"Even the solutions that we have considered to be large and risky are nowhere near the scale of the actual problem that climate change offers us," Ocasio-Cortez said.

"It could be part of a bigger solution, but no one has really figured out what that bigger solution would be, and that's exactly what we're trying to achieve with the Green New Deal."
